Strong echoes of the hopes we had for IoT (Internet of Things) where these "intelligent" objects would offer us a higher level of retail and logistic efficiencies. As you point out it becomes a race for "industry standards" which has traditionally been a hot mess for consumers and regulators. I do wonder if any brand holds enough consumer (and regulator) trust that we'll willing let them be the de facto standard for any one of these objects let alone the whole spectrum from glasses to bikes to cars to household appliances. All hail the even messier Future. Thanks for the sharp writing Amy.
They’ll be managing signals based on what the sensors and the bike detect. So they’ll be perceiving themselves through all these indicators, rather than through their own senses. 🤯
They’ll stop perceiving certain aspects of their environment and the race on their own, and will instead rely on the machine’s output at full speed. I sincerely hope there will be studies conducted on these “turbo riders” to examine their cognitive and psychological adaptation. Fascinating.
As for the question of the living machine…
Humans live with one of the oldest living mechanism on the planet who knows before we know, which we still ignore the full scope of. I'm sincerely convince that is only there, that it will be possible to master the whole picture, as you say. Maybe I'm wrong but...
Somatic memory.
That’s where the future of all these technologies will be decided in regards of human.
P.S.: I’ve had many great mornings watching the Tour de France with Richard Garneau, Louis Bertrand, and Bernard Vallet, who brought the race to life in a way that very few others were able to. I miss those mornings.
